Valeria Ajovalasit
Presidente di Arcidonna Onlus
Valeria è stata una delle fondatrici di “Arcidonna Nazionale” nel 1986 e fu eletta Presidente dell'associazione nell'1987.Arcidonna è un associazione attiva nella promozione delle pari opportunità al livello nazionale e transnazionale. Valeria è stata attiva nella Lobby delle Donne Europee a Bruxelles e nel Comitato Nazionale per le Pari Opportunità presso il Ministero del Lavoro in Italia. A partire dal 1995 è responsabile dell'Ufficio della Presidenza della Regione Siciliana a Roma e dal 1996 coordina il "Gruppo Tecnico – Politiche delle Aree Comunitarie” delle Regioni e delle Provincie Autonome d'Italia.

Alessandra Siragusa è nata a Palermo e ha trentasette anni. È laureata in Lettere classiche e insegna lettere al liceo scientifico. È separata e ha un figlio di 11 anni.
Ha iniziato a impegnarsi in associazioni della società civile nel 1982, a 19 anni. Nel 1985 è stata eletta nel consiglio di quartiere e nel 1990 nel consiglio comunale, dove per tre anni è stata all'opposizione.
Dal 1983 ha fatto parte dell'Amministrazione comunale guidata da Leoluca Orlando, come assessore alle Politiche educative e all'Edilizia scolastica e, poi, anche alle Pari Opportunità. In tale veste ha promosso numerosi progetti educativi, in particolare sull'educazione alla cittadinanza e alla partecipazione consapevole, e momenti d'incontro di donne, sostenendo le iniziative delle associazioni femminili.
Oggi continua l'impegno politico nella società civile.

Raffaella D'Alberti

Nata a Marsala il 20-08-51, è docente di Lettere presso l'Istituto Tecnico per Geometri di Petrosino. Dal 1996 al 1998 è stata Consigliere Comunale SDI, dal 1998 è Assessore alle Pari Opportunità ed alla Cultura e Pubblica Istruzione del Comune di Petrosino

Vita Orlando
è Consigliera Comunale nella Città di Palermo sin dal 1998 ed è coordinatrice del Gruppo Consultivo Pari Opportunità presso lo stesso Comune. Laureata in Lettere e in Pedagogia è stata Assessore ai Servizi Sociali e alla Pubblica Istruzione nel Comune di Terrasini ( PA ) dal 1995 al 1997. Impegnata nel campo del volontariato, ha insegnato per oltre venti anni nel quartiere Danisinni-Zisa a Palermo. Dal 1991 al 1994 ha svolto attività all'estero coordinando il Progetto SARPI ( Society Advancement Rural People Indian ) presso il villaggio di Honavar, nello Stato del Karnataka in India. Ha partecipato alla 22° Sessione Speciale sulla Donna, indetta dall'ONU a New York (giugno 2000) rappresentando la Città di Palermo. Svolge attività per la promozione della donna in diversi ambiti.

Raffaella Calabrese
Commissaria della III sez. Investigativa della Squadra Mobile di Palermo, incaricata di reati di violenza sessuale su donne e minori. Laureata in giurisprudenza, ha frequentato a Roma l'Istituto Superiore di Polizia ed è a Palermo dalla fine del '97 .
A partire dal decreto dell'ottobre del '98, del Ministro Rossa Russo Jervolino viene designata come responsabile dei reati di violenza sessuale su minori.
Dal luglio del'99 con decreto del Capo della Polizia, su disposizione del Ministro degli Interni, viene incaricata dei reati di violenza sessuale sulle donne.

Rossella Carlino
funzionaria dell'INAIL, responsabile del settore Comunicazione. Ex-segretaria comunale e delegata designata all' ANCI Sicilia.
Militante in politica con funzioni di responsabilità presso l'Amministrazione Comunale di Terrasini ( PA ) nel quadriennio 1994-1997.
Ha svolto attività di consulenza per gli amministratori locali sulle leggi di riforma, sulle autonomie e sull'elezione diretta del Sindaco.

Maria Gioia
medico, aiuto di Patologia Clinica all'Ospedale Cervello, impegnata da diversi anni in attività sociali e sindacali. Impegnata da diversi anni nel campo delle P.O., ha partecipato alla 22° Sessione Speciale sulla Donna indetta dall'ONU a New York (giugno 2000) come una delle rappresentanti della Città di Palermo. Di recente ha svolto interessanti ricerche sulla "Gender Medicine".

Silvana Lo Giudice, architetto, esercita da diversi anni la libera professione. Impegnata nell'ambito del recupero dei Beni Culturali nella Città di Palermo. Ha prestato servizio presso la Soprintendenza BB.CC.AA. Attivista in politica, è anche componente dell'Associazione Culturale "Salvare Palermo".

Maria Macli
laureata in Scienze Politiche è da venti anni dipendente dell'Assemblea Regionale Siciliana. Impegnata nel campo del volontariato ha prestato collaborazione esterna presso la "Casa del Sorriso" a Monreale per l'assistenza ed il recupero di minori a rischio affidati dal Tribunale dei Minori ed a Palermo con l'Associazione " Inventare insieme" sorta per e nel quartiere Danisinni.
Componente del Centro di formazione pedagogica " P.Poveda" ha collaborato per la preparazione di seminari sui vari contenuti formativi.

Roberta Messina, laureata in lingue e giornalista, è incaricata dei progetti Europei dell'Associazione Nazionale Arcidonna.
Esperta in politiche comunitarie è docente di formazione in Pari Opportunità. Coordina anche progetti transnazionali ed è componente del Comitato di Presidenza della Rete Europea "Job Rotation".

Tiziana Messina
laureata in Lettere Moderne ha frequentato corsi di lingua spagnola, marketing e commercio internazionale presso l'istituto Don Quijote di Barcellona (Spagna) ed è esperta in relazioni pubbliche e pubblicità.
Ha fatto parte dell'equipe per le attività formative e sociali con i "Giovani per un mondo Unito" del Movimento dei Focolari. Ha svolto attività politiche e culturali con il Centro Adriano Olivetti e con il costituendo Partito Popolare, oggi PPI, come responsabile delle Donne Popolari; ha organizzato con il CIS di Palermo attività sportive.

Graziella Nuara
Docente di Storia e Filosofia insegna presso l'Istituto Provinciale di Cultura e lingue di Palermo.
Impegnata da diversi anni nell'azione politica di rinnovamento con il Movimento per Terrasini, dal 1995 al 1997 ha ricoperto la carica di Consigliera Comunale presso il Comune di Terrasini, cittadina a 30 Km dal capoluogo siciliano.
Attualmente continua il suo impegno politico a Palermo nella lotta per il raggiungimento della Democrazia Paritaria.

Maria Pecoraro
laureata in Matematica, ha insegnato in diverse scuole di Palermo e Provincia, ricoprendo la carica di Preside dal 1982 al 1994 presso il Liceo Cannizzaro di Palermo. Ha ricoperto diverse cariche di responsabilità a livello regionale e nazionale all'interno del CIF (Centro Italiano Femminile). Dal 1974 al 1990 è stata Presidente della Consulta Regionale Femminile della Regione Sicilia.

Giusi Sclafani
giornalista esperta in politiche sociali; sociologa, autrice e regista di documentari sulle problematiche sociali.
Ha condotto e realizzato programmi radiofonici per Rai Sicilia.
E' stata collaboratrice dell'Assessore alle Attività Sociali del Comune di Palermo.

Probably the most interesting thing in politics is the unlimited chance of knowing other people. Something like this seems to be common to different circles, for instance work, associations, the place where you live ...
But it's much more than that. Politics is wider than any other reality I had ever known, simply because it extends to everything, and it depends on your way of thinking, the decisions you make, the initiatives you wish to undertake or merely to continue programmes or ideas other people who think like you have scheduled.
When I was 22 and I was proposed to be actively involved in the Popular Party with a political post in my village, the first thing I thought was that I could have the opportunity to improve or change things that I didn't like. It was the only way to participate in everything or in those things I wished to take part, and after having worked, to be able to talk, to give my opinions, to propose my ideas. It is often the only way to understand how difficult it is to carry on a project.
I would like to say to any woman reading this message, that politics is an exciting world if you really want to do politics, I mean, to do anything to improve the world we all live in. I am sure women have a special feeling that we should put at the disposal of the rest of the world.

Hi there,
My name is Marie Litholm and I'm active in the municipality of Haninge, south of Stockholm in Sweden. I've been a member of the Swedish Christian Democrat Party since 1989. Shortly after that I became a member of the local board and the past four years I have been the chairman of the board. Since the election in 1998 I'm the group leader for the Christian Democratic representatives. I've got a seat in the municipal council, the municipal executive board and the local government committee of children and education.

About me: I'm married and have got two kids, 5 and 7 years old. In my spare time I like to play golf and during the winter both me and my husband jigs. (You know, you drill a whole in the ice and try to get a fish to bite). We compete and this year both of us qualified to the Swedish Championship. I also like to read (whenever I've got time) and to spend time in our garden.

To work with politics is for me a way of trying to make things better in life. Nothing will come out of the criticisms and complaints in the TV-room sofa.

Anna Attergren Granath

My name is Ann-Louise Tillemar. I'm 57 years old and I live in a town called Norrköping, which is situated in the county of Östergötland, in the middle of Sweden.My profession is nurse attendant but today I don't work with that. Camilla Carlsson

My name is Camilla Carlsson and I'm a member of the local reference group for Ricette, representing LO, the local blue collar workers' trade unions in Norrköping. At present I work as project leader for a project concerning unemployed people. We have about 100 enlisted, both women and men. The project is run by the by the unions.
I studied within the cultural sector and have a degree as Bachelor of Arts and Humanities. Culture is my burning interest and I do volunteer work for a number of cultural associations, work like historical documentation, exhibitions, guiding and more. Between 1998 - 2000 I was responsible for an EU Objective 3 project targeting the art of iron smithery and cultural tourism.

Louise Malmström

I'm 28 years old and have been interested in politics since at least 1986, when I joined the Social Democratic Party. Today I work as Political Advisor in the city of Norrköping, Sweden, and I prefer cultural, integrational, social and educational matters.Between reading, travelling and drawing I like to spend time with my daughter who will be two in April. I live with her and her father in an old house outside Norrköping. I dream of creating my own magazine containing important women issues sometime in the future …

Marie Johansson-Ågren

My name is Marie Johansson-Ågren and I'm 42 years old, married and have one daughter who is eleven. I live in Norrköping, a town and municipality with some 120 000 inhabitants. We are among the ten biggest municipalities in Sweden.
I work for The Trade Union for Commercial Employees, with an EU project. The idea of the project is to get companies to send their staff on further training while unemployed people come in as substitutes, what is known as Jobrotation. Our sister organization in Italy is Fedrazione Italiana Sindacati Addetti Servizi Commerciali Affini e del Turismo.

My time is also spent on political work. Twice a month I attend meetings with the Executive Board for the municipal council and one Thursday a month there's a meeting with the municipal council. I'm also on the board of the tourist office.

I've worked with political issues all my life and can't be without it, it's part of me.

Birgit Svärd

My name is Birgit Svärd and I live in the municipality of Finspång in the north of Östergötland. Finspång has roughly 21 000 inhabitants. We can provide up to high school education and the Swedish steel and metal industry has a stronghold here. Finspång is what we call a typical Swedish ironworks municipality.

I myself work at a shopping centre. I'm also engaged in local politics, the social issues. Matters can vary from children's development , family and school policies, leisure time activities and more. We also deal with drug problems in society, even concerning grownups. I'm chairman of the Social Committee under the local council.

My main occupation is within the Union for Commercial Employees where I'm chairman for about 5 000 fellow members. I'm also very much interested in gender equality issues, both concerning home and working life. I'm a social democrat and my motto for all union and social decisions I support is: "Equality for all and focus on the children" .

Lola Frutos Balibrea
